Setting up a configuration for local parallel or sequential jobs

As of Rev 12, it is possible to launch several simultaneous runs of the same batch process simultaneous runs of the same batch process or design exploration study on a single machine. This feature requires no specific additional license, since each run takes a single license as would an ordinary run (if two runs are performed in parallel, they will of course require two licenses).

Two parameters must be specified:

• The maximum number of simultaneous runs maximum number of simultaneous runs that can be processed on the machine for a given Simcenter Amesim session (the default is 8).

• The maximum number of parallel runs for a single batch maximum number of parallel runs for a single batch or design exploration study (the default is 2).

The first parameter (Max. number of simultaneous runs max. number of simultaneous runs ) indicates the maximum number of runs to be processed simultaneously on a machine for a given Simcenter Amesim session. This limit will take into account any runs launched from a single Simcenter Amesim (batch run or single run). If Simcenter Amesim is used on a multi-core machine (for example n cores/CPUs), we recommend you set this limit to n. If you prefer to keep one CPU for other tasks, you should specify n-1.

The second max. number of parallel runs per batch parameter indicates the number of runs to be performed in parallel for a batch run or a design exploration study. In the example above, 2 has been specified as value for this parameter. Thus each batch run or design exploration study launched from Simcenter Amesim will be performed with 2 runs in parallel. This parameter should be specified according to the power of the machine on which Simcenter Amesim is used. The default value has been set to 2, as many computers today are dual core machines. If a quad core machine is used, then we recommend setting this value to 4 (and even to 8 if hyperthreading is available).

Note

The second parameter will always be limited by the first (it is not possible to launch a number of parallel runs in a batch greater than the maximum allowed for a given Simcenter Amesim session).

Both configurations will of course have to take into account the number of licenses available for the system. If you specify more runs than licenses available, all the runs allowed by the license system will be performed, the other ones being queued until the required license token is released.
