Model Comparison tool

Compare systems

Across all engineering disciplines, there are many scenarios which call for the use of comparison and dedicated merging (conflict-resolution) tools.

The typical use-cases for model comparison are:

  • A single user iterating on their own file, and wanting to observe the differences between different iterations of their file

  • Several colleagues working collaboratively on a shared file, and wanting to ensure that they are all working on the same basis

  • Several colleagues working on a project, having used the same file as a starting point, then wanting to compare the ways in which they have separately modified it

When teams are working collaboratively, a versioning tool is often necessary, improving traceability and safeguarding against data loss. Another advantage of versioning systems such as Git is that they allow users to reconcile files which have been modified independently. Usually, when the files being collaborated upon are text-based, merging can be fully automated. When this is not possible, conflict-resolution is as straightforward as making a choice between the contents of one line in a file or another.

The aim of these tools is to offer the following set of features to users and people collaborating on Simcenter Amesim models:

  • Model Comparison: this tool covers all types of comparison between two models, as it is specifically tailored for the contents of Simcenter Amesim models

  • Three-way merge: this tool helps in merging Simcenter Amesim models which are versioned in Simcenter System Simulation Client for Git. It automates whichever parts can be automated, and assists users in resolving merge conflicts when automatic merging is not possible.
