Using the tool

Converting a model When you want to convert Hydraulic submodels in a model into Thermal Hydraulic submodels, open that model in Simcenter Amesim and then launch the tool (through the Tools menu). The tool opens, listing the components and lines in the model, and their status.

Note

If any issues are detected, the tool opens with the Show only issues view displayed. If no issues are detected, the tool displays the Show All view, listing all the components and lines that can be converted.

Note

If the model you want to convert comes from a previous version of Simcenter Amesim, you must run the Model update assistant tool first to update your model. A banner prompts you to perform this step, and provides a Launch button which will close the Model Converter and open the Model update assistant instead:

When you use the Update assistant, you should not only update any out-of-date submodels it contains, but also replace any obsolete submodels before running the Model converter tool.

You can click the Convert button to convert any submodels for which an equivalent submodel is available.

Note

The Undo/Redo feature is available with the Model converter tool.

Banners

The banners in the top half of the tool summarize the status of the submodels:

If a library is missing, you can add it directly to the path list by clicking the Add button, or view (and then add) the missing library(s) by clicking the View suggested paths button.

You can use the Show All and Show only Issues radio buttons to toggle the display between a complete list and a list displaying only those parameters which cannot be converted.

The Component conversion list displays the submodels in the model, and their status:

  • Conversion possible The available updated submodel option is displayed with the available parameters and variables that will be applicable after conversion.

  • Conversion Not Possible The updated submodel displays the same submodel as is currently used. The conversion is not possible if there are no official equivalent submodels in the Thermal Hydraulic libraries, or the model contains user-defined submodels. In this case, the tool indicates the submodel in the sketch, and describes the problem in the Conversion information field: Figure 5: Conversion not possible

Note

The updated submodel may contain new parameters and variables compared with the original submodel. These new parameters and variables are displayed at the bottom of the Updated submodel list (when Show all is selected) in bold.

Parameter comparison

Click the Parameter Preview button to display a preview of the parameter migration options.

Here you can compare the parameters and variables between the original submodel and the converted submodel (as it will be if you perform the conversion).

The value column for the updated submodel displays the type of update that will be performed. The proposed update is indicated as follows:

  • C: the value from the original submodel will be copied to the converted submodel.

  • D: the default value as defined in the reference library submodel will be set for the converted submodel.

  • P: apply parameter conversion. In this case, the tool will handle the conversion automatically.

Searching and sorting

Searching

You can use the Search field to locate specific components in the list.

Enter a search string in the field and then click the Apply filter button or press Enter on your keyboard. The list is filtered accordingly:

You can click the More button to be able to access the Match case or regular expression options. The Reset filter button clears the search field and removes the filter.

Sorting

You can sort each column in the list in ascending or descending order.

When you click on a column header, a black triangle appears indicating the current sort order:

Click the column header to sort the list in ascending or descending order based on this column.
