Default X axis settings

Default X-Axis settings

x-axis default variable

Normally when you plot graphs of Simcenter Amesim Run results, the X axis variable is time in seconds. You can set other variables as the X axis variable in the Plot window using Tools > XY curve(s), or using the Plot Manager. This is sufficient if you want to do a small number of plots with a different X-axis variable.

However, in other situations you need to make a more permanent change to the X axis variable. In order to do this, you must set a new X axis default variable. You can set a new X axis default variable in Simulation mode.

Note

These settings are specific to the currently-selected model only.

  1. Select Tools > Advanced > Plot circuit settings.

This opens the Plot Circuit Settings dialog box where you can define the X axis settings. The first time you use the facility, it is set up for Time as default X axis variable. Figure 275: Default X axis settings

  1. Select the Use a variable option. Two methods allow you to select a variable.

Click the Choose button. This opens a dialog that lists all the components and their variables. Expand the components to display their variables, or use the Search field at the top to filter the list. Select the checkbox next to the variable you want to add and click OK.

This is a convenient method for small systems.

For larger systems, open a Contextual variable tab or a Variable List dialog box, and drag and drop a variable onto the Use a variable field.

When a variable is selected, its title is written in bold, while the alias of the component is written in grey. You can click once on the Use a variable field to highlight the component on the sketch, and double-click it to highlight the component and center the view on it.

  1. Click OK.

Simcenter Amesim Run tries to set this as the X axis variable on all plots requested. This operation can fail in the following two cases:

The variable has not been saved.

The variable has been removed.

X axis variable not saved

When you set a default X axis value, if the save status for that variable is set to false, you get a message like this:

Changing the submodel that contains the X axis

If you remove the submodel that contains your chosen X axis variable from your model, the X axis settings will be reset.
