Displaying External variables
You can display the External variables window through the Edit > Show / Hide menu. If a component or line is selected and is associated with a submodel, its external variables are displayed in it. You can also right-click on the object and select External variables to open the dialog box of the same name.
The External Variables view displays the variables title and name as well as unit and direction (incoming or outgoing) for all ports of a given submodel.
Use the Display variable titles and Display variable names checkboxes to display or hide the variables titles and names.
It is possible to zoom and pan within the view for big or complex submodels.
If no submodel is associated to the component, a list of submodels is opened.
See Why can I not connect two components? for more information on external variables
