Real time interface

The Simcenter Amesim™ software Real-Time Simulation enables the export of an Simcenter Amesim model to a real-time (RT) environment such as dSPACE for use in Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) simulation. HiL can be described as having the physical part of a system (for instance, part of a vehicle) as a simulation while the electronic control unit (ECU) is represented by either a production ECU or a prototype ECU. This will make it possible to test the ECU before putting it into a vehicle, this to eliminate bugs in the ECU in early stages of the development.

The Simcenter Amesim Real-Time Simulation product makes the process of creating a real-time simulation model simpler and faster. Please note that the Simcenter Amesim model meant for real-time often needs to be reduced. There are a number of tools in Simcenter Amesim for assisting in this task, the most important ones are:

Eigenvalues and Modal shapes If a model will be used with a sample frequency of 1 kHz, it is pointless to have a model that simulates 1 MHz dynamics. There is a strict relationship between the eigenvalues in a model and the time step it can be simulated with. For details about eigenvalue analysis, see the Linear Analysis manual.
Performance Analyzer The Performance Analyzer also performs frequency analysis but additionally provides useful statistics on where CPU time is spent, and therefore helps in obtaining CPU speedups.
Activity index The Activity Index helps to find parts of the model that are not active and that can be removed. For details about this, see the Activity Index manual.
