Fill volume

CAD Import, Fill volume operation

Fill volume operation allows you to create a solid CAD body from a list of selected faces.

Procedure

  1. From the CAD modeling menu, select Fill volume  to display a dialog box that will help you perform the fill operation.

  2. Select the faces surrounding a hole from the 3D view.

Use the Select continuous faces  option to select continuous faces: Figure 113: Fill volume operation

Use the Tolerance (degree) field to adjust the sensitivity of the selection. Tolerance can be set between 0° and 90°.

  1. Press the Fill volume button.

A solid CAD body is created using the selected faces as boundaries. Figure 114: Fill volume result

  1. Press Close when you have finished.

You can undo the fill volume operation: close the Fill volume dialog to enable the undo and redo buttons.

Results

Note

To extract complex internal volume for which some faces are difficult to pick, you can:

  • Pick the boundary faces of the volume one by one by selecting the Select picked face  option.

  • Use Select automatically adjacent faces from the picked face  and pick a face within the internal volume to extract. As a result all adjacent faces are selected until the boundary faces are reached.

  • Remove the boundary faces that are at the top of the selected faces.
