Introduction (Statechart Environment)
This document describes the subset of the statechart formalism ("statecharts") implemented in Simcenter Amesim. The Statechart Environment is a visual formalism for describing reactive subsystems (discrete controllers, schedulers, etc.) more conveniently than classical submodel assemblies. Essential information — such as transitions between states — is expressed graphically, greatly simplifying understanding of subsystem logic.
Only a subset of statecharts is implemented, chosen with simplicity and soundness in mind. As a result, statecharts provide a higher level of safety and robustness than classical signal submodel assemblies for equivalent logic.
The Statechart Environment is an integrated graphical definition, simulation, and debugging environment within Simcenter Amesim for building these reactive-subsystem models directly as first-class submodels usable on the sketch alongside other Amesim components.
