Creating a global parameter

Procedure

1. Select Configure > Global parameters, press Ctrl+G, or use the Global parameters button from the Parameter or Simulation contextual toolbar.

The Global Parameters Setup dialog box opens:

2. Right-click and select New.

3. Select the global parameter type you require:

Real parameter

Integer parameter

Text parameter

Enumeration parameter (see Creating an enumeration global parameter)

A new line is created in the table with default (dummy) values for the Name, Title, Value and Unit columns. Note You can also use the keyboard shortcuts to create the type of global parameter you require:

Ctrl+R: create a Real parameter

Ctrl+I: create an Integer parameter

Ctrl+T: create a Text parameter

Ctrl+E: create an Enumeration parameter

4. Double click on each default value and type in the required value as shown in the following figure.

5. Click on OK to close the Global Parameters Setup dialog box, or Apply to confirm the creation of the global parameter and continue creating other global parameters.

Results

You can also create a global parameter simply by dragging and dropping a parameter from the Parameters pane or the Change parameters window into the Global Parameter Setup dialog box:

When you drop the parameter into the Global Parameter Setup dialog box and click Apply, the global parameter is automatically created and applied to the parameter value:

You can use a Ctrl+click on the global parameter value in the Change Parameters window or contextual Parameters window to open the Global Parameter Setup dialog box.

You can also create global parameters in the same way from the Common parameters window.

This action automatically creates a global parameter for each distinct value for the common parameters concerned:
