How do I install my license file?

Note

This document is exclusively intended for system administrators who need to install licenses on user and server machines. Before configuring license servers, you have to ask your local Siemens office for the corresponding license files. Depending on the type of license you want to install, the license management is different. Instructions for all situations are described below.

Answer

There are two types of license:

• Floating licenses: A license server is used, and any client machines on the network can use Simcenter Amesim, up to the limit specified in the license file. A floating license must be set up on both the server and the client machines. The server and the client machine configurations are different.

• Node-locked licenses: The license file is located on a stand-alone machine, and Simcenter Amesim can only be used on this machine.

Depending on the type of license you install and the type of machine you plan to configure, please refer to the relevant section in the list below.

You must NOT configure the license service on a Windows client machine.

• Log in as an Administrator on the Windows client machine.

• If it does not exist yet, create a system environment variable named SPLM_LICENSE_SERVER, whose value can be either @server_name, or port@server_name, or even @server_ip or port@server_ip (where server_name is the hostname of the license server, port is an optional port number that you have defined on the license server for Simcenter Amesim, and server_ip is the ip address of the license server).

How do I install and set up a floating license on a Linux operating system?

You must NOT configure the license service on a Linux client machine.

If it does not exist yet, create a system environment variable named SPLM_LICENSE_SERVER, whose value can be either @server_name, or port@server_name, or even @server_ip or port@server_ip (where server_name is the hostname of the license server, port is an optional port number that you have defined on the license server for Simcenter Amesim, and server_ip is the ip address of the license server).

How do I set up a node-locked license on a Windows machine?

The license service must be configured on the Windows machine.

• Log in as an Administrator on the Windows machine.

• Install the license manager by following instructions described in the How do I install FlexNet Publisher on Windows ? section.

• If it does not exist yet, create a system environment variable named SPLM_LICENSE_SERVER whose value will be @localhost or port@localhost

• Declare the Siemens PLM License Server service as described in How do I install and set up a floating license on a Windows operating system?

How do I set up a node-locked license on a Linux machine?

The license server must be installed on the Linux machine.

Install the license manager by following the instructions described in the How do I install FlexNet Publisher on Linux? section.

If it does not exist yet, create a system environment variable named SPLM_LICENSE_SERVER whose value will be @localhost or port@localhost.

How do I install FlexNet Publisher on Windows ?

To install the license manager, you must download the installer which is available on the Support Center Website under Siemens License Server (see Support Center ).
