Execute a template on multiple files

Data Import batch template If you plan to perform the same import operations on multiple files and create the corresponding tables, you can execute a template on these files without loading them in the Data Import tool. On all platforms, Data Import can perform the operations stored in a template on a list of selected files. Without editing or running a program script, you can perform this action from the Data Import interface.

Generating files

Procedure

1. Click the Batch template button in the Template section on the File tab.

2. Select a template from the Template to apply drop-down list.

3. Click the browse button to select the files on which you want to execute the template.

The selected files are listed in the Input files pane: Figure 32: Input files

Note You can perform multi-selection in the file explorer. You can mix the file formats that are supported by Data Import in your selection. If you perform a new selection, the current list is replaced.

4. Click the Output folder browse button to specify a location for the generated files. This location can be different from the location of the input files.

5. Click the Generate button.

The files are generated and a status is displayed for each file: Figure 33: Status

Note When the generation process starts, the Generate button changes to a Stop button. You can press Stop to abort the process if any problems arise.

When the process is complete, the total number of table files generated is shown. If the creation of a table file fails, the total number of failures is displayed. Figure 34: Generation summary

Note The name of a generated table file consists of the native input file name with the suffix _converted.

Debugging errors

If any of the table files are not generated, you can check the cause of the failures. Click the header of the Status column to sort the list to display the failures at the top. Note the name of any input file whose generation has failed, and load it in the Data Import tool. Then you can execute the template on the newly-loaded data and check the template log to see what error has arisen.

The Batch template assistant can be left open during this process.
