Groups

If you have a large number of watches, you can organize them into groups (and sub-groups) in both the Watch parameters and Watch variables panes.

To create a group, right-click in the Watch pane (in relevant tab) and select New group. The application inserts a new folder in the location selected and you can edit the name as required. This may be at the root of the watch list, or as a sub-folder within an already existing group. You can drag and drop existing or new watches into the group folders.

Once you have created a number of watches, you can save the configuration for later use. This process saves all the current watch parameters and watch variables to a file that you can reload at a later date.

To save your current watches, right-click in the Watch pane and select Save. A file browser opens, allowing you to select a save location for your watches. Browse to select the location you require, enter a name for the file and click Save. Your watches will be saved locally as a .pvc file.

To load your saved watches, right-click in the Watch pane, and select Load. A file browser opens. Browse to locate your saved watch file, select it and click Open.

Note

Any watches you currently have configured will be replaced by those defined in the file you are loading.

You can right-click on a watch or watch folder to copy/cut and paste it to a new location/folder/sub-folder, or delete it. If you copy and paste a watch folder, you also copy and paste all the watches it contains.

Note

You can use a Ctrl+click or a Shift+click to make multiple selections when copying, pasting, deleting and cutting watches.

Ordering watches

If you have a long list of watches, you can use the arrows in the contextual menu to modify the order of the list. You can either select a single watch to move it up or down the list, or use the keyboard Ctrl or Shift keys to make multiple selections to move up or down as a group:

You can clear all watches currently configured in your Watch pane.

You do this for each tab individually. Select either the Watch parameters or the Watch variables tab and then right-click anywhere in the tab. Select Clear all from the contextual menu. All watches configured on the selected tab are removed.

You can edit your watches in the Watch pane. You can edit your watch parameters and variables both in Simulation mode, and in Parameter mode.

• For a watch parameter, click in the Title or Value fields to edit them directly, as you would in the Change Parameters window.

• For a watch variable, click in the Title field to edit it, or use the Source file combo box to select a source file, as you would in the Variable List window.

You can set watch variables to update automatically, or you can update them manually. Right-click on the Watch variables tab and select Automatic update to have your watch variables updated automatically:

De-select this option if you want to update your watch variables manually. In this case, you must select the Update menu item to update manually. When Automatic update is disabled, the clock symbol at the top of the last column is grayed-out:

Watch parameter and variable contextual menus

A right-click on a watch parameter or variable produces a contextual menu. The available options are described below.

Menu item	Function
Copy	Copy the selected watch(es). You can then paste the selection in the Watch pane, or into a group.
Reset title	If you have modified the title of a watch, you can use this function to set the default title.
Reset custom unit	If you modify the unit of a watch parameter or variable, you can use this function to set the default unit.
Set max/min/default value (Watch parameter contextual menu only)	You can use these functions to set maximum, minimum or default values for a watch parameter.
Plot (Watch variable contextual menu only)	Plot the selected watch(es).
Copy parameter/variable path	You can use these functions to obtain parameter or variable paths to paste into expressions in the Post-processing integrated features and the Experiment view sections.
Update (Watch variable contextual menu only)	Update the selected watch variable value
Automatic update (Watch variable contextual menu only)	Enable automatic update for the selected watch variable
Help	Launch the Help application with information on working with watches.
New group	Create a group to organize your watches.
Load/Save	Load and save your list of watches. See Saving and loading watches
Cut/Paste/Delete	Cut, paste an delete watches.
Move up/Move down	Move watches up and down in the list
Clear all	Delete all watch parameters and variables
