1D Table

A Simcenter Amesim 1D table is a collection of (x,y) couples, each couple representing a point on a curve. Data can be stored consecutively on the same line or on many lines, as needed. Data are separated by any number of white spaces, tab or return characters.

Butterworth filter

A Butterworth filter is a commonly used signal processing filter designed to have as flat a frequency response as possible in the passband. It is also referred to as a maximally flat magnitude filter.

Data fitting

As opposed to data interpolation, data fitting consists in finding the parameters of a predefined parametric model (e.g. polynomial coefficients) that best approximates a given set of numerical data points, according to a certain convergence criterion. The values given by a surrogate fitted model do not necessarily match the values of the initial points used for finding its parameters as the resulting approximation is global.

Data interpolation

Data interpolation is the process of finding an “underlying” model to a given data set within the same data range, by artificially creating non-existing data between available data points. The resulting model still fits exactly with the values of the initial data points but also estimates the values between these points in a way that satisfies some mathematical properties. There are several data interpolation techniques (e.g. linear or cubic interpolation methods) depending on the desired mathematical properties (e.g. continuity or derivability properties).

Scattered data

scattered data Scattered data usually means data that is not organized following a regular grid. We can also speak about unstructured data. This kind of data is typically stored in columns or lines having the same length.

Table

A Simcenter Amesim table is an ASCII file containing numerical data organized in a way that depends on the data structure. There are several table formats in Simcenter Amesim, depending on whether the data is scattered or not. It goes from a simple vector to multi-dimensional matrices depending on the number of dimensions to be considered.

XY table

An XY table is a Simcenter Amesim table format containing several columns having the same length. This is a very common way of organizing scattered (unstructured) data corresponding to several quantities measured at given time instants, for instance.

Zero-phase filter

zero-phase filter A zero-phase filter denotes a filter that doesn’t apply any phase shift on the signal it filters. It is especially interesting for avoiding phase delays being introduced between filtered signals that were not sampled at the same rate (typically signals coming from different physical sensors).
