Question
How do I set port numbers for services in the license file?
Answer
Note
This FAQ is intended for license administrators.
By default, license files generated for Simcenter Amesim products contain no port numbers. In some circumstances (active firewalls), the lmgrd and ugslmd services (for FlexNet Publisher) that are supposed to start on the license server machine cannot start because they are blocked by firewalls.
Below we present some recommendations to allow license administrators to set their own port numbers which will not be blocked by active firewalls.
In license files, you must consider two specific lines to set port numbers if required:
The SERVER line, corresponding to the lmgrd service.
The VENDOR line, corresponding to the ugslmd service.
If no port is specified in the license file:
The license manager (lmgrd) uses the port defined on the SERVER line of the license file (28000) or a port between 27000 and 27009 if none is defined.
The vendor daemon (ugslmd) uses the port defined on the VENDOR line or the first available if none is defined.
FlexNet Publisher: Setting a port number manually for the lmgrd service
To set a port number manually for the lmgrd service, you must add it to the end of the SERVER line.
Example:
SERVER melody 80b918aa 28000
In this example, the license server running on the host melody will use the TCP/IP port number 28000.
FlexNet Publisher: Setting a port number manually for the ugslmd service
To set a port number manually for the ugslmd service, one must add it to the end of the VENDOR ugslmd line.
Example:
VENDOR ugslmd port=28001
In this example, the license server for the ugslmd service will use the port number 28001.
It is the responsibility of the license administrator to ensure that the selected port numbers will not be blocked by firewalls.
Once a port number is added/updated, make sure to reread the license file or restart license services.
