Answer

Below are the compatibility lists between Microsoft Visual C++ and Simcenter Amesim versions:

  • If not done by default with the Visual C++ installation, Microsoft SDK must be installed.
Yes Probable No
MSSDK Microsoft Visual C++ 64 bits Simcenter Amesim
2021.1 2021.2 2022.1 2210 2304 2310 2404 2410 2504 2511
10 2022 Std/Pro

7.1/8.0 2010 Std/Pro
6.0/7.0 2008 Std/Pro

For Visual 2015 to 2022: if several versions of the compiler are installed the latest version is used automatically.

For Visual 2010 to 2013: if several versions of the compiler are installed the latest version is used automatically.

In both cases you can modify this by editing the files %AME%\vcvars64.bat (for Visual 2010 to 2013 64-bit), %AME%\vcvars64_vc140.bat (for Visual 2015 to 2022 64-bit) or %AME%\vcvars32.bat (for Visual 2010 to 2013 32-bit).

Note

On some machines with Visual 2022 installed, you may need to create a System environment variable called VS170COMNTOOLS pointing to the location of the Tools folder of the Visual 2022 installation, typically C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\2022\Professional\Common7\Tools. This environment variable is used in %AME%\vcvars64_vc140.bat to locate the compiler.
