The Modelica Editor > The Graphical User Interface

Managing the Workspace

Panes in the Modelica Editor can be undocked so that they can be moved to any position you require on your screen, or they can be moved to a new docking location in the application. You can also close panes completely, or ‘iconify’ them.

Undocking panes

To undock a pane, click the Dock/Undock dock/undock button:

In the above screenshot, we are undocking the Modelica icon sketcher. The pane can then be left hovering, or can be re-docked in another area of the application, either on its own, or as a new tab.

Re-docking panes

When you have undocked a pane, you can drag it to a new area of the application to dock it. As you drag the pane over the application, a blue highlight indicates areas where you can redock the pane. When you release the mouse button, the pane is docked:

Closing panes

If you no longer need a pane, you can close it by clicking the X symbol:

You can always reopen a closed pane through a right-click:

Iconifying panes

If you do not want to close a pane, but you do not need to keep it fully-displayed, you can iconify it. This means you reduce the pane to an icon to the left or right of your working area by clicking the iconify button:

The pane is replaced by an icon:

You can then restore the pane to its original position by clicking on the icon.
