Combining curve types

In this section we describe how to combine different types of curve on the same graph. Please refer to the Types of graph view section for more information on the different ways you can display data with the Plot facility of Simcenter Amesim.

This capability is very useful for example to analyze how simulated operating points are located on the mapping of a component.

You can have several curves of the same type. In addition you can combine curves of different types as long as they are supported by the graph view type. For instance you can mix XY and XYZ curves if the 2D graph view is selected. Below are the two major graph views that support this capability.

Selecting the curve display

In order to visualize the curves correctly, you can change their display format. You can build a graph that will be best suited for the analysis of the results.

Double-click the graph key of the curve to access the drop-down list of the displays. Below are the displays that are available for curves that are compatible with a 2D graph view.

Example

Here is an example where a single graph is comprised of the operation points of a turbocharger along a driving cycle and the compressor characteristics. It makes easy to discern whether the engine is being used at the best operating point with regard to turbocharger efficiency.

  • The pressure ratio map is an M1D curve associated with a multi-lines display.

  • The efficiency map is an XYZ curve associated with a colormap display.

  • The simulation operating point is a XY curve associated with a density display.

Note

For this graph, the compressor characteristics come from tables. Please refer to the Importing and exporting plot data for more information about importing tables into a plot.
