Functional description of the pump
This section is not essential for the description of the methodology. For non-hydraulic readers it is safe to skip to the next section.
The radial pump consists of a housing, camshaft and three pistons elements with suction plate and high-pressure check valves associated with each piston.
The pistons are arranged radially around the camshaft and held upon it by preloaded springs.
When the piston extends, volume in its chamber increases. The resulting negative pressure permits the suction plate to open and filling to begin.
While the piston travels to the top of the cam lobe, the pressure increases in the chamber closing the inlet valve. Then the high-pressure check is opened and the fluid is pushed to the system outside the pump. Each piston provides a flow in the same way.
The pump is filled by the fluid delivered by a feeding pump (2 bar), which also ensures the lubrication of the system.
