FMI Type Selection

With the FMI 2.0 specification, an FMU may simultaneously exhibit the two types of interface: Model Exchange and Co-simulation. This is an optional choice that can be made by the tool that creates an FMU. Not all FMUs have both interfaces and not all exporting tools are able to create mixed-type FMUs.

When importing such an FMU to Simcenter Amesim, the preferred type of interface must be specified using the –preferred option, which takes as its value the keyword cs for Co-simulation or me for Model Exchange.

In the FMU Import Assistant, this choice is expressed using a radio button labeled Preferred simulation type that is visible in the second step (Import settings) of the assistant as shown below:

If the FMU declares only one type of interface, the –preferred option is ignored, and the FMU is imported with the only declared interface type. This always applies to the FMI 1.0 specification that does not allow mixed-type FMUs.
