Import raw data as M1D table from engine mapping

In this example data from an engine mapping, stored in an Excel® file, are imported into Simcenter Amesim to generate tables for simulation. The goal is to create the look-up tables for the description of the raw efficiencies of the engine. These tables are mainly used as inputs of the MVEM model from the IFP Engine library. It is assumed the columns of interest are defined: engine speed, intake pressure, air trapped, volumetric efficiency, and indicated efficiency.

Procedure

  1. Open the Data Import, and click the Open button to load your Excel® file containing the test data.

  2. Select the Titles and Units rows.

  1. The first table to create is the volumetric efficiency as a function of the engine speed and the manifold pressure. Select the M1D table format, set the three first columns as the detection range and choose to detect the slices by using the slice step values. In our case the slice reference values are the engine speeds that are defined every 250 rpm. Set a tolerance of 200 for the detection of slice stepvalues.

  1. Click Detect.

When the difference between two consecutive values of the engine speed is greater than 200, a new slice is detected. Then the created slices are highlighted in the table. Figure 61: Slices highlight

  1. On the right of the window, update the plot to visualize the map.

  1. Save the table.

  2. Select columns A, D and E in the spreadsheet and set them as the detection range. Click Detect to generate the slices selection for the indicated efficiency.

Results

Thanks to the Data Import you can create look-up tables with the right format that are used in the submodels.
