The figure below shows the Studies tab when DOE is selected as study type.

Whatever technique you choose, the part which is study type-dependent consists of:

• a pull-down list to set the technique,

• a Show design matrix button to display the planned sequence of runs according to the current setting,

• two tabs:

Inputs/Controls, listing inputs that can be declared as controls.

Outputs/Responses, listing outputs that can be declared as responses. Only the list on the Inputs/Controls tab depends on the technique selected.

DOE technique

Technique Design Of Experiments

The DOE technique drop-down list allows you to set the Design of Experiment technique. You can choose from:

• Parameter study

• Full factorial

• Central composite

When you change the technique, the list of controls is adapted to your choice.

Design matrix

When you click the Show design matrix button, a dialog box appears to show you the sequence of runs which is planned according to the current settings. The following figure shows this dialog box which displays the runs planned for a Full factorial study.

You can either display the actual values that will be assigned to inputs for each run or display a code that represent the level. This code depends on the chosen technique and is explained in paragraphs dedicated to each technique.

To switch between the two displays, tick or un-tick the Show values check box.

Study parameter definition

The Outputs/Responses tab displays a list of all the outputs available from the Parameters tab. These may be Simple output or Compound output parameters.

The list consists of two columns:

• The first one contains the names you gave to the output parameters in the Parameters tab (read only). It also contains check boxes. Only the parameters for which the check boxes are ticked are considered as responses: they will be saved in the log file and will be available for post-treatments.

• The second one contains units.

Click on a check box to tick or un-tick it.

Even if the Inputs/Controls tab contents depend on the technique, some elements are common to all techniques. For all techniques, this tab consists of a list in which:

• The first column contains the name you gave to the parameter in the Parameters tab. It also contains check boxes. A ticked check box means that the corresponding input parameters is considered as a factor.

• The second one contains units.

• The third column contains the default value. Note The value contained in the Default values column is assigned to the input if it is not used as a factor (if the corresponding check box is not ticked).
