The Export Tool in detail

Preferred workflow for creating a model destined for FMU export:

  1. Build the model in Sketch mode using library submodels, but without the interface block yet. Temporarily replace future external inputs with signal source blocks, and route external outputs to signal sink blocks.
  2. Compile the model in Simulation mode and test it via simulations.
  3. Return to Sketch mode to add an interface block: connect its outputs to actuator submodels and its inputs to sensor submodels.
  4. Use the FMU Export Assistant to generate the FMU — choosing FMU type/version, visibility level, and target platform (native or real-time).

Each time the model changes (component added/removed, submodel swapped, parameter value changed, or run parameters changed), the FMU should be regenerated to keep it in sync.
