The Simcenter Amesim working modes

With Simcenter Amesim, you can build a sketch, affect submodels to the components and lines, set up the parameters of the submodels and then launch a simulation. Each step is performed in a specific working mode in Simcenter Amesim.

This section introduces the very basic features available in the working modes of Simcenter Amesim for new users.

Sketch mode

When you start Simcenter Amesim you are in Sketch mode.

In Sketch mode, you can:

  • build a new system,

  • modify or complete an existing system,

  • set or remove a component submodel,

  • set parameters (including structural parameters) for a component (as long as its submodel has been set)

  • change common parameters

  • copy and paste parameters

... with the components of the available categories. It is the only mode in which the category buttons and the Lock button are available.

Note

It is not possible to view or modify Global Parameters in Sketch mode.

Sketch mode is the first step in the simulation. In this mode, you place the components you require to build your system on the sketch, and then connect them together.

Submodel mode

When your system is complete, you can enter Submodel mode to select submodels for the components of the system.

Note

Setting submodels is also possible in Sketch mode.

If the circuit is not complete, you cannot enter Submodel mode. In this case, the following dialog box is displayed:

In Submodel mode, you can:

  • select a submodel for each component,

  • use the Premier submodel button so that the simplest submodel is automatically assigned to each component or line which has no submodel.

  • set parameters.

Parameter mode

In Parameter mode, you can:

  • Parameter mode change submodel parameters

examine and change submodel parameters,

  • Parameter mode copy submodel parameters

copy submodel parameters,

  • Parameter mode set global parameters

set global parameters,

  • Parameter mode common parameters

select an area of the sketch and show common parameters in this area,

  • Parameter mode specify a batch run

specify a batch run.

Note

You can display variable lists and plot results in Parameter mode through the Variable pane.

Simulation mode

In Simulation mode, you can:

  • Simulation mode initiate standard and batch simulation runs

initiate standard and batch simulation runs,

  • Simulation mode create plots of results

create plots of results,

  • Simulation mode store and load the configuration

store and load the configuration of all or some of your plots,

  • Simulation mode initiate linearizations

initiate linearizations of the current system,

  • Simulation mode analyses of the linearized systems

perform various analyses on the linearized systems,

  • perform Activity Index analysis.

When you enter Simulation mode, Simcenter Amesim compiles the system. The compilation creates an executable file. This executable file makes the simulation possible. Normally, before you perform a simulation run, you adjust the parameters of the model.

With the previous modes, you prepared your sketch, you set the submodels and the parameters. Now, you are ready to run a simulation!

Note

It is also possible to change parameters in Simulation mode through the contextual Parameters window.
