Introduction

This manual introduces the Spectral Analysis tools available in Simcenter Amesim™ software.

A physical process can be described either in the time domain time domain, by the values of a quantity h(t) as a function of time t, or else in the frequency domain frequency domain, where the process is specified by giving its amplitude H(f) as a function of frequency f.

The time-domain representation gives the amplitudes of the signal at the instant of time during which it was sampled. However, in many cases, knowing the frequency content of a signal is more interesting than knowing the amplitudes of the individual samples.

The Fourier Transform Fourier transform is the method used to convert a signal from the time domain to the frequency domain (and vice versa). It is presented in detail in the FFT section of this manual.

The Spectral Analysis Tools are Simcenter Amesim tools dedicated to frequency domain analysis of signals generated by Simcenter Amesim models.
