Constructing the generic supercomponent
Step 1: Convert the sub-system shown in Figure 3.5 to a generic supercomponent using the cam icon (use Ctrl+W)

Step 2: Open the supercomponent in Sketch or Submodel mode (through a right-click on the supercomponent)

Step 3: In your Simcenter Amesim system, check that it gives the same results as the other two versions

You will need to add the linear displacement variable (in the supercomponent's linearvxcon component) to the Exposed variables list and then run a simulation to be able to plot it.
Comparing the generic supercomponent with the generic submodel we have to prefer the submodel. There are far too many redundant parameters in the supercomponent which should be left at the set values. If we released the supercomponent for others to use, sooner or later some of these values would get changed. The situation is unsatisfactory so we will see what Component Customization can do to improve matters.
The basic idea is to get the supercomponent to behave more like the submodel CAM00 hiding irrelevant detail. In particular we want the Change Parameters and Variable List dialog boxes to be like those in the two following figures, respectively.
