Question

How do I manually install Simcenter Amesim under Windows using an existing installation?

Answer

Note

This procedure is only intended for computer administrators or advanced users in the Windows operating system.

This procedure explains how to install Simcenter Amesim manually (without the installation iso file) from an already existing installation on another machine. This implies that the disk where Simcenter Amesim is originally installed is shared, and can be accessed from the target machine.

Installation procedure

Procedure

  1. Log in as an Administrator.

  2. Create a new empty folder (C:\Amesim for example).

Since Rev 9, the folder path CAN contain blank spaces.

With previous versions, the folder name MUST NOT contain any blank spaces!

  1. Copy the contents of the installation folder of an existing Simcenter Amesim installation from a shared disk on your network, and paste them into the newly created folder on the destination machine.

  2. If you use the Microsoft Visual C++ compiler, copy the VCVARS32.bat or VCVARS64.bat file from the compiler folder (for example C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\VC\Bin, for Visual C++ 2010) into the Simcenter Amesim installation folder (C:\Amesim for example).

  3. Copy the license file into the licensing folder of Simcenter Amesim (C:\Amesim\licensing for example). Then set up the license manager if required: please refer to FAQ L01 - FlexNet Publisher: how do I install my license file? for more details on this action.

Setting environment variables

Note

This section applies to Simcenter Amesim versions prior to 2022.1 only. In Simcenter Amesim 2022.1, you no longer need to set the AME and PATH environment variables.

Procedure

  1. Make sure that you are logged in as an Administrator.

  2. Create or modify the following SYSTEM environment variables and their corresponding values.

AME: Create this environment variable. It must point to the Simcenter Amesim installation folder (for example C:\Amesim)

PATH: Modify the existing PATH variable by adding the following paths at the beginning of this variable: %AME%;%AME%\win32;%AME%\win64;%AME%\sys\64\bin;

  1. Log out and log in as a normal user.

Results

The installation is finished.

Launching Simcenter Amesim

Procedure

To start Simcenter Amesim, launch the AMESim.exe file located in the win32 folder of Simcenter Amesim (C:\Amesim\win64 for example). You can also create an icon on your desktop pointing to the AMESim.exe file.

To start Simcenter Amesim Run, Submodel Editor or Component Customization, simply launch the appropriate executable file located in the win64 folder of Simcenter Amesim (C:\AMESim\win64\AMERun.exe for example for Simcenter Amesim Run). You can also create an icon on your desktop for each .exe file.

Note

The .exe files are no longer used starting from Simcenter Amesim 2022.1. Instead you can launch Simcenter Amesim, Simcenter Amesim Run, Submodel Editor or Component Customization by using the corresponding .bat file (for example, AMESim.bat).
