1D Mechanical Library
The Mechanical library is supplied as standard in Simcenter Amesim. It offers a large set of basic mechanical components which, when combined, allow the user to model various one-dimensional mechanical dynamical systems.
The Mechanical library is able to handle a large number of applications, from the simple motion of a rotary load to complex phenomena such as friction or collision.
In addition, this library allows the user to model:
- Linear motion of rigid bodies
- Relative motion of two rigid bodies
- Spring and damping effects
- Viscous friction and windage
- Worm gear and screw/nut mechanisms
- Rack and pinion mechanisms
- Ropes, sheaves and winches
- ...
Components from the Mechanical library can be plugged into various components from other libraries such as:
- Transmission components (from the Powertrain, the IFP-Drive or the Vehicle Dynamics library)
- Cam and follower components (from the Cams and Followers library)
- Compressors (from the Hydraulic, the IFP-Engine, the Pneumatic or the Gas Mixture library)
- Electrical motors (from the Automotive Electrics or the Electric Motors and Drives library)
- Magnetic transducers (from the Electro Mechanical library)
- Crankshaft-pistons (from the IFP-Engine library)
The aim of this manual is to describe the key equations and assumptions the Mechanical library relies on. A brief description of the components specific to this library is also given, even though the user is advised to refer to the component's documentation for full details.
Refer to the glossary at the end of this manual for a definition of the main notions.
It is assumed that the reader is familiar with the use of Simcenter Amesim. If this is not the case, we suggest that you do the tutorial exercises of the Simcenter Amesim manual before attempting the examples below.
Note on edition
The version of this document accessible at capture time was Simcenter Amesim and System Architect 2021.2 (this library's Library Documentation category listing did not surface a 2604/2511-tagged edition).
