Understanding what the Activity Index is

Electromechanical system

We now consider an electromechanical system piloting a hydraulic valve.

Figure 17: Electromechanical system with some typical time-domain responses

We can observe that the electromechanical activity is much smaller than the hydro-mechanical activity:

Figure 18: Activity Index results obtained with the electromechanical system

When zooming on the electromechanical part, only considering the electromechanical components of the model with their associated activities, we can see that the electromechanical activity is concentrated in only 5 elements:

Figure 19: Zoom on the Activity Index results obtained for the electromechanical part only (no hydraulic part considered)

This means that the complete model can be reduced keeping only the 5 electromechanical elements with highest activities. We finally check that the initial complicated model and the reduced simplified model give similar results when used with an identical input scenario.
