Setting up a Distributed Simulation
Preparation for remote parallel or sequential jobs

The facility should be set up and used only with the permission of the computer system administrator or manager. There are security issues involved and this person should have the final veto over the use of the facility. Furthermore the facility should only be made available to users who will behave responsibly.

There are a number of stages that are necessary to set things up for multiprocessor Design Exploration or Batch runs. Since this basic setup needs only to be done once, it is well worth spending the time to do it well and test it thoroughly.
The following notation will be used:
A machine whose processors might be used to perform runs will be called a host.
The host from which you launch the parallel Design Exploration or batch run will be described as the local host.
The other hosts will be described as remote hosts.
With the Simcenter Amesim multiprocessor Design Exploration or batch run facility there are some reasonable restrictions:
The processors must be of the same type running compatible operating systems. Ideally the operating systems should be identical but normally some variation is possible.
You must have the same login identity on all hosts.
When you log in to all the target machines the AME environment variable must be set specifying a version of Simcenter Amesim that supports Multiple Batch Runs or Design Exploration.
When the facility is working and a parallel batch run or Design Exploration is launched, all hosts must have access to the same executable and must write result files in the same folder. It follows that this cannot be a local disk (with the possible exception of use of the facility on a single multiprocessor machine). The folder must have precisely the same pathname on all the hosts. Thus it does not work if you have H:\users\FSmith\injection_work on one host, and G:\users\FSmith\injection_work on another.
The first stage is to test the target machines. Verify that you can log in to all of them under the same login identity and start an Simcenter Amesim session.
Ideally the services of a system administrator are required for the next steps.
The procedure is different for UNIX® and Windows®.
