Details of the Simcenter Amesim co-simulation types
co-simulation type
Three different protocols are currently supported by the Generic Co-simulation:
Network co-simulation: two computers, each one running Simcenter Amesim.
Shared memory co-simulation: two Simcenter Amesim running on a multi-CPU computer.
Import co-simulation: two Simcenter Amesim running on a single-CPU computer.
This manual will describe these co-simulation types and present examples of use. It is assumed that the reader is familiar with the use of Simcenter Amesim. If this is not the case, we suggest that you do the exercises of the Simcenter Amesim tutorial manual before attempting the examples below.
The two co-simulation types supported by the Generic Co-simulation are defined hereafter:
Co-simulation: there are as many executables as applications involved in the simulation. Each application uses its own solver and is launched separately. Applications simply exchange data during the simulation. Figure 8: Co-simulation scheme
Hybrid Co-simulation: there is only one executable. One application is chosen as master and pilots the other. Other applications are not used directly: they export their solvers which are used by the master. A typical Hybrid Co-simulation might consist in using, for example, a third-party application to pilot the dynamic library created with Simcenter Amesim. Figure 9: Hybrid Co-simulation scheme
