Introduction

Positioning of HPC

The three figures below give an overview of how HPC is positioned in comparison with the standard process for running simulations, and to the parallel processing feature already offered by Simcenter Amesim. With the standard simulation process (see first figure), each user designs the model and analyzes results locally on his machine. Unless the Scripting API or Circuit API are being used, the Simcenter Amesim GUI needs to remain open throughout the simulation.

The parallel processing feature (see second figure) is similar to the standard process, except that each user can take advantage of the resources of other machines. The Simcenter Amesim GUI is also needed during the complete calculation.

With HPC (see third figure), the calculation resources available are usually more powerful than for parallel processing and shared amongst several users. The work is asynchronous, meaning that the Simcenter Amesim GUI is no longer needed once the jobs have been submitted. The job scheduler manages the workload of jobs to ensure their successful completion under global priority rules. Simulations can be monitored by users and may involve thousands of runs. Results can be retrieved and exploited at a later time.

To leverage the exploitation of models with HPC, Simcenter Amesim provides a module that simplifies the export of simulations to your HPC platform. This solution makes it possible to manage thousands of simulations over all CPU cores allocated to the job in question.
