Organizing global parameters

When you create a global parameter, you can either create it directly in the global parameters table, or within a global parameter group. You can either create the group first, and then create a global parameter in that group (as described in Creating a global parameter), or create a group and drag and drop existing global parameters into that group.

Note

You can create sub-groups in your groups of global parameters, and further sub-groups inside those sub-groups to any depth, as you require.

Creating a global parameter in a new group

Procedure

1. To create a global parameter in a new group, right-click on the global parameters table and select New Group.

The new group appears in the list.

2. Rename it as you require.

3. Right-click on the group and select New to create global parameters in that group.

Creating a global parameter in an existing group

To create a global parameter in an existing group, right-click on the group and select New.

Moving global parameters to a group

You can drag and drop global parameters into a group.

You can use the Ctrl or the Shift keys on your keyboard to make multiple selections. You can also cut and paste global parameters into (or out of) a group.

You can move global parameters between groups through a drag and drop, or a cut and paste.

Copying and pasting global parameters

You can copy and paste global parameters between (or within) groups, with the standard copy/paste functions, or by pressing Ctrl on the keyboard when you drag and drop global parameters from one group to another. When you copy and paste a global parameter from one group to another, the global parameter name is renamed incrementally. For example, if your global parameter is named mass, when copied and pasted to a new group (or within the same group), it is renamed to mass1.

Expanding and collapsing groups

When global parameters are placed in a group, the group can be expanded or collapsed to display or hide its contents by clicking the symbol:

If you have multiple groups, you can use a right-click and select Expand All/Collapse All to expand or collapse groups:

Select multiple global parameters

You can make multiple selections in the Global Parameter Setup dialog box. This makes it possible to reorganize your list more easily, or delete several global parameters in one action.

• Selecting multiple global parametersHold down the Ctrl key to select several different global parameters: You can also use the Shift key to make multiple contiguous selections.

• Deleting multiple global parametersWhen multiple global parameters are selected, right-click and use the Delete option to remove the selected global parameters from the list.Note If you remove a global parameter that has been used as a Batch or Watch parameter, or in the Export Parameters Setup, it will also be removed from those dialog boxes when you remove it from the Global Parameter Setup dialog box.

• Dragging multiple global parametersIf you select multiple global parameters, you can then drag them as a group to the Study parameters dialog box, the Export Parameters Setup dialog box, or the Watch pane:

Exposing global parameters within supercomponents

If you use a global parameter in a supercomponent, you can expose it in the normal manner, so that it is displayed in the system’s parameter view:
