The aim of CAD Import > Generate system model from 3D CAD

Generating model

Before using the wizard for generating the model, you have to create the connections between the primitives. Therefore the 3D CAD model is fully described and the connections between the Simcenter Amesim components will be performed while generating the model.

Procedure

  1. This step is very straight forward since an algorithm helps you automatically create the connection. In the Connections tab next to Measurements, click the button Create connections automatically .

When selecting a connection in the list, the information is displayed on the 3D scene. Figure 55: Connection information

  1. You can now click on the Model generation button in the toolbar.

This opens a wizard that helps you to create the model step-by-step: Figure 56: Model generation wizard

  1. Choose Current description and click Modeling assumption.

The next page of the wizard allows you to select the Simcenter Amesim libraries that are to be used to generate the model. Figure 57: Libraries selection page

  1. Select Pneumatic application. Keep the Use modular piping option if required and click Model generation.

For some applications, an option is available that allows you to choose the modeling assumptions. In the case of the Fluid domain, you can choose to use the modular piping component or the elementary components. If you select the Use modular piping Use modular piping option, the generated model uses the modular piping component to group all primitives that define a sequence of pipes, bends, contractions/expansions and convergents/divergents. When the option is not selected, the model that is generated uses the elementary components of the library instead. Figure 59: Elementary components

The next and last pages of the wizard give a summary of the selected options for model generation. Figure 60: Model generation page

  1. Click Generate.

The model is generated in the active system. If the active system already contains some components, it is possible to add the new model without deleting the existing ones. You just need to uncheck the Clear sketch before generation option. During model generation the progress bar displays the completed tasks, and at the same time you can observe the model being generated in real-time.

Results

Once the model generation is completed you can close the wizard. You should obtain the following model depending on the option you select:

  • Use modular piping component

Only one modular piping component is put on the sketch. The number of segments is set to 4 in accordance with the number of primitives. Figure 61: Generated model with modular piping component

When you expand the parameter group of a segment definition, you can check the parameters that are tagged From CAD Import. Figure 62: Segment parameters setting

  • Use elementary components

4 elementary components are put on the sketch, in accordance with the number of primitives. Figure 63: Generated model with elementary components

When you select a component, you can check the parameters that are tagged From CAD Import. Figure 64: Expansion/Contraction component

The beginning and the end of the flow branch are closed with pressure or flow sources. The boundary conditions just need to be set up in order to run simulations and perform analysis of your pneumatic system.
