Constructing the flat system

Reload the old system and check the results against the following figure. This is the valve lift and the reference set of results we will use to check the new generic supercomponent and its customized version.

Step 1: Create a generic supercomponent including all components except PM000

No standard Simcenter Amesim icon is really suitable for this supercomponent. If you are very short of time you can use any icon of the Mechanical category which has a single rotary port such as the following:

However, for a more artistic solution we suggest you do the following:

Procedure

  1. Click on the Component Icon tab.

  2. Click on Open in designer.

The Icon designer opens.

  1. From the Icon tab, select File > Import image.

  2. A suitable icon already exists in a folder of the Simcenter Amesim system area. Enter the following name:

$AME/tutorial/Icons/twinvalves.xbm, or

%AME%\tutorial\Icons\twinvalves.xbm

The icon should now be loaded into the Icon designer.

  1. From the Ports tab, define a rotary shaft as shown below:

  2. Save the icon.

Step 2: Save your supercomponent in a category

Procedure

  1. Go to the Category Saving tab.

  2. Under Component Icon, create a new parent category, by clicking on the + button. Indicate a storage directory and a name for your category.

  3. Give a Name and a Description to your component and save it.

  4. Under Submodel & Properties, give a Name and a Description to your supercomponent.

  5. Indicate the storage directory and click Save.

Step 3: Add the generic supercomponent to your Simcenter Amesim system and run a simulation to check that the results are correct

Note

You will have to open the supercomponent and add the two displacement variables to the Exposed variables pane and then run a new simulation to be able to plot them.
