Using the HPC feature with the Simcenter Amesim GUI

Example: running a simulation in the HPC Cluster from Simcenter Amesim

To run a simulation in the HPC cluster machine (mentioned hereafter as HPC), it must be configured in Simcenter Amesim. To do so, please refer to Configuring HPC in the Simcenter Amesim GUI.

Starting a study simulation in HPC from the Simcenter Amesim GUI

You can start executing the simulation of batch runs and Design Exploration studies (DoE, Monte Carlo, and Optimization studies) in the HPC machine.

Note

Currently single run simulations from Simcenter Amesim are not supported in the HPC machine.

A Batch study is selected in the study list. Here you can see that HPC is selected in a disabled drop-down box in the top toolbar. This means that HPC was selected as the Parallel processing mode in the Preferences. It cannot be changed from here.

When the study is ready to execute (the parameterization is done) you can click the Start Run button. This will submit the model (here DesignOptimization.ame) to the HPC cluster and run the "Default_Batch" study in HPC.

The HPC Monitor will be launched automatically and displays the study status. You can close the HPC Monitor and launch it again using the HPC Monitor button to check the status of launched studies at a later time.

The above procedure to run an HPC simulation is same for all studies. However, advanced customization is available in the Study Manager for Design Exploration studies.

A DOE study is now selected. If you look at the top right corner, you can see that the HPC drop-down box is active. You can change the Parallel processing mode for this study from this drop-down box, as shown below.

When you select HPC, the HPC run settings tab becomes available for editing.

The settings from this tab are specific to the selected study. They can be used to override settings defined in the Simcenter Amesim Preferences, such as Working directory, Number of nodes, Number of cores and Time limit. HPC runs will respect the values entered here while running an HPC simulation for the selected study.

Not all the fields are displayed here. Some fields are specific to a scheduler, and only the fields available for the scheduler selected in the Simcenter Amesim Preferences are shown here.
