Variable access

You can access variables in various ways:

• Through the Variable list dialog box.

• Through the contextual Parameters window.

• Through the Watch variables dock window.

The Variable list dialog box

In Simulation mode, double-click or right-click on a component or line to open its Variable List dialog box. From this dialog box you can plot variables, view variable final values, change variable titles and modify the Save next status for variables.

Note

You can also open a component or line's Variable List dialog box while in Parameter mode through a right-click.

Each item in the list has a title and this field is also editable. Select the field and make the changes you want.

To restore the original title, select the item in the list and select Reset title.

You can open multiple Variable List dialog boxes.

The contextual Variables window

As well as opening a Variable List window by double-clicking a component, you can edit values in the contextual Variables window. By default, this option is enabled. You can disable (or reinstate) the contextual Variables window through the Edit > Show / Hide menu.

With this option enabled, a single click on a component displays its variables in a dock window (below the Parameters dock window if enabled):

Here you have access to the same variables as in the Variable List window, and you can edit them in the same way. Changes you make in the Variable List window are immediately applied in the Variables pane, and vice versa.

In Parameter and Simulation modes, you can plot variables from the Variables pane (if it is displayed), by dragging them onto the sketch area:

Copy variable path

You can right-click on a variable and select Copy variable path to copy the location of a variable.

This enables you to obtain the unique ID of the parameter or variable for use in scripting.
