Power, Energy and Activity

It is possible to activate Power calculations in Simcenter Amesim Run by changing the state of the corresponding checkbox accordingly in the Dynamic run options, whereas Energy and/or Activity calculations are only possible if they have been previously activated in Simcenter Amesim.

Indeed, activating or deactivating these options changes the number of state variables, which requires the model to be recompiled. If Power calculations are activated, every compliant Simcenter Amesim component will display additional power variables corresponding to the various Capacitive, Inertial, Resistive, Source, or Resistive-Source power types it contains. Activating Energy calculations provides the integrals of the previously mentioned power variables over the simulation. More information can be found on the pages dedicated to Power, Energy and Activity calculations. These calculations are library-specific.

Activity is a very powerful facility. It is an energy-based metric of the numeric activity in submodels. It has been designed to assist users in simplifying models (by removing unnecessary submodels or replacing them by simpler ones). Activity types are similar to Power or Energy types (i.e. Capacitive, Resistive, …). A complete chapter is devoted to this subject in the Activity Index manual.

Before you start a run, make sure the required calculation checkboxes are ticked in the Run Parameters dialog box (remember that the state of Energy and Activity checkboxes can only be changed in Simcenter Amesim):

Once the run is complete (or at least a reasonable number of results has been accumulated) select the Power, Energy, Activity item in the Simulate menu. Depending on activated calculations, you will be able to check the corresponding Power, Energy or Activity variables on the dedicated tabs.
