CAD Import, Model generation

The Model generation assistant guides you step by step to create a Simcenter Amesim model from a CAD Import project.

It is accessible through the 1D modeling > Model generation menu/toolbar action.

  1. The System description page allows you to choose the starting point of the model generation:

From the current CAD Import project,

From a meta data file (in the CADMD format) previously exported (refer to The File menu section for more details) or a PLMXML file that contains a mechanism description.

  1. The Modeling assumption page allows you to select a group of Simcenter Amesim libraries to describe each used CAD Import domain. Figure 163: Selecting Simcenter Amesim libraries

Note If the selected Simcenter Amesim libraries are not able to describe the CAD Import domain, a warning appears in the bottom view. Depending on the library, you can select an additional option to choose the modeling assumptions. This allows you to use dedicated components which make it possible to group and merge a sequence of primitives into one component instead of using elementary components for each primitive. An information icon with an associated tooltip explains what this additional option does. The Domain view displays the CAD Import domain names and instances. More details domain instances are provided in the Domains section.

  1. The Model generation page allows you to create the Simcenter Amesim model from the previous settings. A summary is displayed to inform about the active Simcenter Amesim document, the number of CAD Import domains and primitives and the Simcenter Amesim libraries used to generate the sketch. If the option Clear sketch before generation is disabled, the Model generation algorithm keeps the existing components in the active document and create the new sketch below them. Two options are available to optimize the position of the components on the sketch:

Original aspect: If this option is set, the Model generation algorithm tries to minimize the size of the sketch as much as possible while keeping the original aspect from the last 3D view. This algorithm avoids the overlapping of components.

Homogeneous distance: If this option is set, the Model generation algorithm tries to minimize the size of the sketch as much as possible while keeping an optimize distance between all components. This algorithm does not guarantee the overlapping of components.

The Generate button starts the generation algorithm. Note The Model generation status is displayed in the log view during the process. Click the warnings/errors button in the status bar to open the log window. The process can be stopped at any time with the Stop button.
