Getting started with the Model Comparison tool
Starting the tool
You can start the Model Comparison tool in two ways:
From the Simcenter Amesim Tools menu:
From the Command Line Interface, using the following syntax:
CopyAmeDiff.bat [OPTIONAL] --left Model1.ame The first model to be used in the comparison [OPTIONAL] --right Model2.ame The second model to be used in the comparison [OPTIONAL] --label-left "Label1" The label to be displayed with the first model [OPTIONAL] --label-right "Label2" The label to be displayed with the second model
Note
For this call to succeed, the path to your Simcenter Amesim installation must be present in your PATH environment variable.
For further information about labels, please refer to Using Model Comparison from within Simcenter Client for Git.
Adding models to the comparison
After starting the tool, you can add models to the comparison. If you launched the tool from the Simcenter Amesim Tools menu, you can add models in one of two ways:
Browsing to the file using the dedicated button:
Dragging-and-dropping a file directly into the comparison field:
Note
A message is displayed if the path you specify is invalid or the model cannot be found:
The comparison tree appears after you have loaded two models into the Model Comparison tool.

If you launch the Model Comparison tool from the command with appropriate arguments, the tool launches with the models directly loaded in the window. If you launch the tool from the command line without providing the --left and --right arguments, you can add models to the comparison using the methods described above.
Note
Model Comparison does not require models to be open in the Simcenter Amesim user interface to compare them. Whenever you compare two models using this feature, the following occurs:
The files being compared are moved to temporary locations for the purposes of the comparison.
The actual files being compared are the temporary files – this means that you can compare models that are currently open in Simcenter Amesim. The comparison is based on the last-saved version of the model.
Once the comparison is complete, the temporary files are removed.
Note that as a result of this structure, Model Comparison does not update the contents of a comparison if you make changes to your model after you launch the comparison. However, re-loading the model into Model Comparison starts a fresh comparison with the latest saved version of the model as its basis.
