Parameter access

You can access parameters in various ways:

  • Through the Change parameters dialog box.

  • Through the contextual Parameters window.

  • Through the Watch parameters dock window.

The Change Parameters dialog box

In Parameter mode, double-click or right-click on a component or line to open its Change Parameters dialog box. From this dialog box you can change the parameter values.

Note

You can also open a component or line's Change Parameters dialog box while in Simulation mode through a right-click.

You can double-click the Title or Value fields to edit them. You can enter a numerical value or a text string in the Value field. If you start to enter a text string, the auto-completion function proposes different corresponding values:

When you modify a parameter value, it is displayed in bold text:

Figure 69: Parameter value modified

Here we see that the AS Body displacement value has been modified, as has the mass value, which has been assigned a global parameter. In the latter case, the value becomes a link through which you can open the Global parameters window with a Ctrl+click.

You can also use the following functions to adjust parameter values:

  • Set max value: Set the parameter to the maximum value within the advised range.

  • Set min value: Set the parameter to the minimum value within the advised range.

  • Set default value

If you set a value that is outside the recommended minimum or maximum range, the value is highlighted in orange:

Figure 70: Value outside recommended range

Here we see that the PS Body velocity value has been set to 1e+07, which is outside the maximum recommended range for the component.

If you set an invalid value, it is highlighted in red:

Figure 71: Invalid value

Here we see that the mass value has been set to mass_gp (a global parameter that does not exist), and the value is consequently highlighted in red.

You can edit the titles and values of parameters and global parameters.

In Simcenter Amesim Run there is a size limit for titles and expressions. See the following table:

Object Size limit in number of characters
Parameter values 255
Text parameter values 512
Parameter title 127

Note

You can open multiple Change Parameters dialog boxes.

The contextual Parameters window

As well as opening a Change Parameters window by double-clicking a component, you can edit values in the contextual Parameters window. By default, this option is enabled. You can disable (or reinstate) the contextual Parameters window through the Edit > Show / Hide menu.

With this option enabled, a single click on a component displays its parameters in a dock window (above the Variables dock window if enabled):

Figure 72: Parameters pane enabled

Here you have access to the same parameters as in the Change Parameters window, and you can edit them in the same way. Changes you make in the Change Parameters window are immediately applied in the Parameters pane, and vice versa.

Copy parameter path

You can right-click on a parameter and select Copy parameter path to copy the location of a parameter.

You can copy the location of a parameter through a right click:

This enables you to obtain the unique ID of the parameter or variable for use in scripting.

Expression evaluation in parameter views

Expression evaluation

Parameter expression evaluation

When you display parameters in the Change Parameters window, the Parameters pane, or the Watch view, the value of any parameter that contains an expression is displayed in a tooltip:
