Port tags

Displaying port tags

Select Sketch > Port Tag List to display the list of all the remote ports used in the current sketch. You can also access the Port Tag List by selecting two or more transmitters and/or receivers and selecting Port Tag List from the contextual menu.

The following window opens:

If you select just one transmitter or receiver, the contextual menu option will either be Set port tag (if none has been set) or Edit port tag (if a port tag is already set for that component).

If you open the port tag list by right-clicking on one or several transmitters or receivers on the sketch, the corresponding rows are automatically highlighted and visible in the dialog.

You can select multiple rows using the Ctrl+Shift and Ctrl+A commands. Multiple selection will highlight the corresponding components with a green label on the sketch.

The port tag list can be sorted by clicking on any column title.

For each port, you can modify the Alias and assign a new value to the Port tag by double-clicking on it:

When a transmitter and a receiver have the same port tag, they behave as if the output of the transmitter is connected to the input of the receiver. This connection is not visible on the sketch since these two components are not directly connected and are not linked by any line.

Note

A connection can only be made between a transmitter and a receiver which both belong to the main sketch, or to the same level of a single supercomponent. For instance a connection cannot be made between components belonging to two different supercomponents, or between a component of the main sketch and another one in a supercomponent.

When the port tags are set, you can switch to Parameter mode provided the following conditions are met:

• Each transmitter must be connected to at least one receiver.

• Each receiver must be connected to one (and only one) transmitter.

• Each transmitter port tag is different from the other transmitter tags.

• A tag is assigned to each transmitter or receiver (no port tag is listed as Not set).

Results

Otherwise, an error message is displayed.

Note

If you have many transmitters and receivers in a sketch, you can easily find which receivers are connected to which transmitters as follows:

1. Click on the header of the Port tag column to sort the list.

2. Select every line with the same port tag so that the corresponding labels are highlighted on the sketch.

You can display an individual component’s port tag by hovering your mouse over it:

Connecting port tags

You can use the contextual menu option Connect Port tags from the Port Tag List dialog or the sketch to connect one or multiple port tags.

The following window opens:

Enter a port tag name and click OK.

You can also connect transmitters and receivers on the sketch by selecting them and right-clicking to open the Port tag name dialog box as above:

Alternatively, as soon as you place a transmitter or receiver on the sketch, you can right-click to set the port tag for that element:

Note

You will get an error message in the following cases:

• You try to connect multiple transmitters.

• You try to connect a transmitter with one or more receivers using a tag that is already used by another transmitter.

Copying/pasting port tags

You can copy and paste port tags using the contextual menu:

Procedure

1. Select one port tag in the Port Tag List or on the sketch.

2. Right-click and select Copy Port tag.

3. Right-click on the port tag(s) you want to apply the tag to, and select Paste Port tag.

Note

Copy Port tag is enabled only when a single row is selected. Paste Port tag is disabled when there is nothing to be pasted.

If you try to paste a port tag to any transmitter which is already in use by another transmitter, an error message is displayed.

Show connected

The Show connected option highlights all components connected to the selected item in the sketch:

Editing port tags

You can edit a port tag through a right-click.

This option opens the Port Tag List with the corresponding line selected.
