Adjust saving strategy

When you set your run parameters, the information panel in the dialog box indicates when your result file size exceeds 2 GB:

Figure 197: Result file warning

As of Simcenter Amesim 15, the 2 GB limitation on the size of result files can be removed (see Use extended size limit for result file), and you can now create result files up to 6 GB. A large result file can impact performance (such as loading a model with a large result file or plotting results).

Note

This feature is not available when using the Legacy Simulator.

Consequently, you can use the Configure > Saving strategy dialog box to adjust the selection of variables to save in order to reduce the size of your result file.

Figure 198: Saving strategy dialog box

This dialog box indicates the number of saved variables, and the estimated size of the result file(s).

The options for Variables to be saved are as follows:

  • Watch variables: Variables in the Watch view will be saved during a simulation. Checking this box will also save history variables for tunable parameters that have been added to the Watch Parameter view (refer to the Tunable parameters section in the Submodel Editor manual for more information).

  • Variables inside components: Internal and exposed variables of supercomponents will be saved during a simulation.

  • All other variables:

Variables of components in the main sketch will be saved during a simulation.

Only exposed variables in a supercomponent in the main sketch will be saved during a simulation. In the case of a hierarchical supercomponent (a "parent" supercomponent containing other supercomponents), you should ensure that variables are exposed at the topmost ('parent') level in the hierarchy.

Selecting all three groups will save all variables in the model during a simulation.

You can use the Variables to be saved checkboxes to select which variables to save in the result file. If your result file will be too large, you can deselect a checkbox to reduce its size:

Figure 199: Setting a saving strategy

Here, we have reduced the estimated size of our result file by deselecting variables inside supercomponents.

Note

Only internal and exposed variables in a supercomponent are included when you select the Variables inside supercomponents checkbox.

The Saving strategy will be remembered by the circuit and will be restored the next time you open the model.
