Scalability with Hierarchy: Example of a Mechanical Gearbox

Power and Energy Scalability with Hierarchy To demonstrate the scalability with respect to systemic levels, we will verify that the power analysis is possible at each scale with a complex model.

For this purpose, lets consider the Simcenter Amesim model of a gearbox available from Help in Demos > Solutions > Automotive > Drivetrain then in the Transmission / Gearbox section (Thermal transmission - Step 2: thermal analysis on driving cycle).

The part of the model that is dedicated to the gearbox itself is shown in the figure below.

The control part has not been represented above. The controller is designed to increase the load speed. The figure below shows more precisely the evolution of the relevant variables during the simulated mission profile.

You can perform power and energy analysis either at the level of any component or subsystem, or directly for the complete model.
