Source S Power Calculation

When performing an energy analysis, we are interested in both where the energy is consumed and where it comes from. In an isolated system with a virtual borderline drawn on the Simcenter Amesim sketch there are different types of power sources that are on the source side of the general power balance equation.

Incoming powers at ports

The power contributions at each port of the system are to be measured with power sensors.

Note

There is no source S computed for the sources external to the components or subsystems. The power and/or energy of these sources have to be computed by placing power/energy sensors at the external ports of these components or subsystems.

Source submodels

The source submodels that are inside the system bring (or take) power to the system.

With:

  • for a source element.

As opposed to R, C and I powers, the source powers must respect the usual source sign convention:

  • if the source is giving energy to the rest of the system;

  • if the source is receiving energy from the rest of the system.

Energy is therefore calculated as the integral value of the power:

There are some S sources computed for the internal sources within the submodel. This is the case when some phenomena are not represented with an external port present on the component icon while the phenomena actually exist internally to the components or subsystems. This applies typically to phenomena like gravity or atmospheric pressure.
