Thermodynamic plots

A thermodynamic plot is used to visualize an animated thermodynamic diagram. The plot shows a thermodynamic cycle that is drawn over a dedicated background that displays the fluid characteristics such as iso curves. The background switches automatically according to the selected fluid and the type of diagrams. The cycle points are defined by the variables of the sensors you add in your system model.

Depending on the library you use to model the system, specific diagram types are provided which are listed in the table below.

Sensor components

The thermodynamic plot refers to variables from sensor components. It is then mandatory to add these components in your system to create the cycle of the thermodynamic diagram. The components are listed in the table below:

Creating a thermodynamic plot

Procedure

  1. Select Plots > Thermodynamic from the Analysis toolbar.

  1. Here, you can set the following options:

Thermodynamic properties

Library: the library that is used in your system.

Diagram type: the type of thermodynamic diagram to produce.

Fluid: the type of fluid to use. Note The list refers to the fluids that are available in the Simcenter Amesim database. For the two-phase flow library, you can also create your own fluid mixtures. In that case the fluid mixtures appear at the top of the list. The list is then contextual to the model that uses those mixtures.

Cycle definition All sensor components that are on your sketch are listed here. Select which sensors you wish to include in order to create the cycle points of the thermodynamic diagram. You can select one or more sensors (using shift+click or Ctrl+click). When you click the button, the selected sensors are added to the cycle nodes list. The order in which sensors are placed in the cycle nodes list defines how the points are connected to display the diagram. You can adjust the order with the move up and move down buttons, or remove them from the list with the button.

  1. Click OK.

Editing a thermodynamic plot

Once a thermodynamic plot is created, you can edit the type of diagram and the cycle definition through the Plot manager. Refer to the The Plot Manager section for more information.

Procedure

  1. Select the graph item of the thermodynamic plot in the tree of the Plot manager to access the thermodynamic properties in the general tab.

  1. Then select the curve item in the tree of the Plot manager, the following options are accessible on the cycle definition tab:

  1. Here you can adjust the selection of sensors to include in the cycle nodes list, and change the order of the cycle nodes.

  2. You can also add a node to the cycle nodes list with the button. An associated item is also added to the Plot manager tree under the thermodynamic plot item. You can then drag-and-drop variables on the X and Y items of the node.
