CAD Import, Boolean operation

The Boolean sub-menu provides a list of operations you can perform on two objects. After the operation, the two objects no longer exist separately, one or several resulting objects are created.

Note

Boolean operations can be applied on imported CAD objects and also on box, cone, cylinder and sphere objects.

Unite

The Unite operation consists in grouping two objects in order to obtain a new shape.

Procedure

1. From the CAD modeling menu, select Boolean > Unite to display the Unite bodies dialog box.

2. Select the base and tool objects and press Unite.

Note The two objects can be selected in the Object tree or in the 3D view. You can preselect the base and tool objects before opening the Unite bodies dialog. You can select several objects in the Tool object(s) pane to apply the operation to a multi-selection.

Results

The result is a single shape corresponding to a merge of the two selected shapes.

Subtract

The Subtract operation consists in removing an object volume from another object. This is useful only if the two selected objects have an area in common.

Procedure

1. From the Tools menu, select Boolean > Subtract to display the Subtract bodies dialog box.

2. Select the base and tool objects and press Subtract.

Note The two objects can be selected in the Object tree or in the 3D view. You can preselect the base and tool objects before opening the Subtract bodies dialog. You can select several objects in the Tool object(s) pane to apply the operation to a multi-selection.

Results

The result is a single shape corresponding to base object from which the common part with tool object has been removed.

Intersect

The Intersect operation consists in creating an object from the common part of two objects.

Procedure

1. From the Tools menu, select Boolean > Intersect to display the Intersect bodies dialog box.

2. Select the base and tool objects and press Intersect.

Results

The result is a single shape corresponding to an intersection of the two shapes.
