CAD Import, Model upgrade

The Model upgrade assistant guides you step by step in applying structural or parameter changes on a Simcenter Amesim model from a CAD Import project. Use the Model upgrade assistant to explore the differences, view the changes highlighted in the original model and the model produced by the new CAD model revision, and merge the differences.

It is accessible through the 1D modeling > Model upgrade menu/toolbar action.

  1. The System description page allows you to choose the starting point of the model upgrade:

From the current CAD Import project,

From a meta data file (in the CADMD format) previously-exported (refer to The File menu section for more details) or a PLMXML file that contains a mechanism description.

  1. The Modeling assumption page allows you to select a group of Simcenter Amesim libraries to describe each used CAD Import domain. Figure 166: Selecting Simcenter Amesim libraries

Note The selected libraries should corresponds to the librairies that are used in the model to upgrade. If the selected Simcenter Amesim libraries are not able to describe the CAD Import domain, a warning appears in the bottom view. Depending on the library, you can select an additional option to choose the modeling assumptions. This allows you to use dedicated components which make it possible to group and merge a sequence of primitives into one component instead of using elementary components for each primitive. An information icon with an associated tooltip explains what this additional option does. The Domain view displays the CAD Import domain names and instances. More details on domain instances are provided in the Domains section.

  1. The Models comparison page shows the type of changes between two different designs. It displays both models in separate sketch views. Unlike comparison tools that generate reports on files that derive from a same origin, the Models upgrade attempts to detect matches between corresponding sections of the model structures. This is why sections that are identical are also highlighted. You can click to select an item on the sketch views and observe the following display features:

If an item is part of a matched pair, it is highlighted in green.

A number is displayed next to a matched item to identify the items of the pair on both views.

If the selected item in one view is part of a matched pair, its peer is also selected in the other view. The parameters for the selected pair are displayed in the parameter tables.

Item highlighting indicates the nature of each difference as follows:

Green

Matched items are matched pairs of components between the two model structures. This status is displayed on both views. A component with this status in the view of the current model to upgrade is paired with a component with this status in the view of the generated model from selected system description. This type of component is updated depending on the parameter value changes if the user presses the upgrade button.

Kept

Purple

Kept items are components that are preserved in the merged model structure. This status is displayed on the view of the current model to upgrade only. A component with this status is part of the view of the merged model. This type of component remains unchanged in the system model if the user presses the upgrade button.

Deleted

Orange

Deleted items are components that are removed from the merged model structure. This status is displayed on the view of the current model to upgrade only. A component with this status is not part of the view of the merged model. This type of component is removed from the system model if the user presses the upgrade button.

Inserted

Blue

Inserted items are components that are added to the merged model structure. This status is displayed on the view of the generated model from selected system description only. A component with this status is part of the view of the merged model. This type of component is added to the system model if the user presses the upgrade button.

Ignored

Grey

Ignored items are components that are disregarded in the merged model structure. This status is displayed on the view of the generated model from the selected system description only. A component with this status is not part of the view of the merged model. This type of component is not taken into account in the system model if the user presses the upgrade button.

You can merge the changes between the two views by switching to the Upgrade page. This creates a third sketch view which can contain the changes from either the left view or the right view. Use the buttons in the top toolbar to change the status of an item and select the differences to apply in the merged view. The buttons are enabled depending on the selected items:

On the left view, if the selected items are part of the kept ones, you can change the status to deleted. Click the Delete button .

On the left view, if the selected items are part of the deleted ones, you can change the status to kept. Click the Keep button .

On the right view, if the selected items are part of the inserted ones, you can change the status to ignored. Click the Ignore button .

On the right view, if the selected items are part of the ignored ones, you can change the status to inserted. Click the Insert button .

If the selected item is part of a matched pair, you can break the pairing between the items of the left and right views. Click the Break match button . On the left view, the status switches to deleted and on the righ view, the status switches to inserted.

You can create a matched pair. To do so, select one item on the left and one item on the right that are not part of a matched pair and click the Match button .

Note If the first attempt fails to detect correctly-matched pairs, you can break the incorrectly-matched pairs, create some of them manually and click the Find matches button . A new attempt to detect matched pairs is performed based on the ones you set manually as seeds.

  1. You can use the Models upgrade page to preview the result of the merging. The Upgrade button is then available and you can to apply the modifications on the active Simcenter Amesim model. Note The Model upgrade status is displayed in the log view during the process. Click the warnings/errors button in the status bar to open the log window.
