Introduction
The Simcenter Amesim software interface allows the user to connect a 3D mechanism model built in Simcenter 3D Motion with a Simcenter Amesim model. This interface (called Mechatronics) is useful when studying the interaction between complex mechanism models and sophisticated pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
The interface lets the user take advantage of the strengths of both Simcenter Amesim and Simcenter 3D Motion without diminishing either package's capabilities — it instead enhances them. Each system's results can be plotted in its own package, taking full advantage of the animation capabilities of Simcenter 3D Motion.

The Simcenter 3D Motion/Simcenter Amesim solution process is a master/slave relationship:
- Coupled solution — all Simcenter 3D Motion equations and Simcenter Amesim state equations are combined and solved simultaneously. This also allows the Simcenter 3D Motion static solver and linearization to be used.
- Co-simulation mode — the Simcenter 3D Motion model is exported from Simcenter 3D Motion and added as a submodel into Simcenter Amesim. This is strictly a co-simulation. The coupled simulation environment allows other Simcenter 3D Motion-type analyses to be used: statics, dynamics, static/dynamics, and linearization.
Dynamic Solution — the underlying differential-algebraic equations of motion are solved by a numerical integration process.
Static/Dynamic Solution — a static solution is first performed to bring the equations of motion to equilibrium, then a dynamic solution is launched starting from the equilibrium position.
