Introduction
The Functional Mock-up Interface (FMI) is a set of standards that specify how to couple simulation models built with various simulation software tools or how to couple the simulation software themselves in the aim of performing transient simulations of the coupled system. A simulation software tool which complies with these standards may act:
either as an exporting tool that can create components called Functional Mock-up Units (FMU) containing models or simulators to be used by other simulation software
or as an importing tool that can use FMU generated by other simulation software
The FMI standards define two kinds of interface:
FMI for Model Exchange [1] [3], which describes a standardized way for interfacing a model with a simulation environment that provides at least a numerical solver.
FMI for Co-simulation [2] [3], which deals with the coupling of simulators (each simulator having its own numerical solver embedded in the FMU) through a master co-simulation environment.
Simcenter Amesim™ software is able to
export FMU for Model Exchange in version 1.0 and 2.0,
import FMU for Model Exchange in version 1.0 and 2.0,
export FMU for Co-simulation in version 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0.
import (as a master) FMU for Co-simulation in version 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0.
