Creating and exporting FMU > The Export Tool in detail

Installation-free FMUs (standard case)

From release 2404 onward, an exported FMU no longer requires any

Simcenter Amesim

installation for its execution. Such installation-free FMU execution works in most cases for most

Simcenter Amesim

models as long as:

  • the FMU is exported with the default options (especially: embed tables enabled and tool coupling scenario disabled).

  • only standard libraries and no specific submodels with external dependencies are used, which is the most common situation.

As a result, standard FMUs only require license checks and usually do not require anything to be installed on the execution machine, which simplifies deployment (for example on HPC clusters).

Note

If an FMU is generated with a Simcenter Amesim release older than 2404, and/or in the very specific case where some necessary external resources which are usually present in a standard Simcenter Amesim installation (and which are not embedded in the FMU), as a fall-back solution, you can create a lightweight installation package.

Please refer to FAQ I08 for the detailed process.

The Simcenter Amesim versions used for the minimum installation and for FMU generation must be identical.
